Gardening

We thought we would start our blog with something we've been spending a lot of our free time on these past few months. Here is how our garden looked the first week in May.

We started with a row of onion sets, a row of half spinach, half swiss chard, a row of lettuce, a row of radishes, two rows of peas. Then one big row of green beans, a few peppers (on the left of the second large row). We planted a banana pepper, two Santa Fe, one Tam Jalepeno, and a bell pepper. On the same row we planted a Casper Eggplant, which is named, not after the city, but the ghost, and some bush cucumbers.

This is how it looks now, or rather how it looked last week.

The Sunflower is now in full bloom. That is from the same packet of seeds that we grew years ago. It was the last seed in the packet, and I am a little surprised it grew at all. The lettuce, spinache, radishes, and peas are now done.

we have been overrun with Zuchini and Crookedneck Squash. The Tomatoes are just now beginning to ripen. We have eaten three of them, but soon we will be looking for ways to put those away.

We're jealous of your garden! What a labor of love. Have you found lots of creative ways to use the zucchini? I'm sorry I forgot to get my grandmother's zucchini spaghetti recipe.... I absolutely love bottled tomatoes! They're great in everything from spaghetti sauce to soup. If I remember right, they're not that hard to can.
